What I've decided is that most of the coupons are for things we don't buy. Mostly prepackaged convenience foods that either I refuse to eat or Taryn can't eat anyway, so why stock up? I'm not going to run out and buy pudding packs or frozen burritos, sorry. So we miss out on a lot of "great deals" each week because of that. Well, this week, the coupons were for us! As were the sales. That, and I had 2 rainchecks for cereal from past sales.
So, I took the girls and for 3 hours, we went to 4 stores (thankfully, 3 are within 2 miles of each other). It's still a lot of work to get them in and out of the car and keep them happy in 4 different stores. Keara decided to be a perfect ANGEL today and was literally fantastic the entire time. Taryn, however, wanted a nap before we left and wanted a nap the whole time we were gone. She did pretty well in every store besides one, but we made short work of that store and got out.
Here's what I got:
*19 boxes of cereal
*1 loaf of bread
*1 1/2 gallons milk
* 15 Powerade
*1 bottle handsoap
*1 GrillMates dry marinade/rub
*2 BBQ liquid marinades
*24 Yoplait yogurt
*3 lbs. bananas
*1 lbs fresh green beans
* 2 lbs strawberries
*8 lbs pork loin (cut into 1 roast and a LOT of chops! I have to use butchers more...)
*1 whole chicken
* 2 bags Quaker Rice Cakes (a special treat for Taryn that she CAN have!)
*5 shampoo/conditioner
It should have cost $180.14.
I spent $68.90.
I used $22.40 in coupons.
I saved $111.24. (which doesn't include 14 boxes of cereal...I saved an additional $50 on those)
Total savings: 62%
Not bad.

Wow and I thought my savings of almost $50 was a lot! Where do you get all of your coupons? I have been watching the paper and the mail and I do agree that most of them are for unhealthy foods that John and don't eat but sometimes I get good coupons for good things. Fry's also sends me coupons for things that I buy on a regular basis which is nice but its only quarterly I think. Let me know where you collect all of them that is great!
WAY TO GO CHERI!!! That's huge!
Also, your photos could have been a fun game of "I Spy", having us all guess all thes things you had purchased...a box of Oh's, 1 gallon milk, Suave shampoo...etc.
Congratulations! What a great day that must have been!
wow,
I went shopping today and spent $85. You know what I got? 1 loaf of bread, 1 drink, some candy, 5 jars of peanut butter, 5 jars of jelly, 2 packages of raisins, basil and rosemary. Good work.
Welcome to the couponing world. It is a lot of work weeding through things you don't need. Congrats on such a success!
AWEOSME! I always get a little overwhelmed by the fact that I would have to go to so many stores to get all the deals. Good for you for doing it! I went to Julie's baby shower today. We missed you. She is due June 18th.
