At least that's how it feels. We hit 100 degrees over a week ago. This entire week was over 100. And next week looks the same. So I wanted to find out the facts about Arizona's summers...and it's not pleasant. The only pleasant thing I read was that the average last day over 110 degrees is this baby's due date. But that doesn't take into account that the average last day over 100 degrees isn't until October.
*The average first 100 degree day is May 13, but is closer to May 2nd if you go back to and take an average since 1978.
*The earliest to hit 100 was March 26th 1988.
*The latest to hit 100 was June 13th 1913.*
How about the average last 100 degree day? If you go back to the late 1800's, that day is September 28th, but that is closer to October 3rd if you look at the last 30 years.
*This is why our summers can feel soooo long.
*The earliest 'last 100 degree day' occurred September 2nd 1904, while the latest 100 degree day occurred October 23rd 2003.
*The average number of '100 degree plus' days each year adds up to be 93, but over the last 30 years that number has grown to 109. This is due primarily to Valley growth and the urban heat island.
*The greatest number of days '100 degree plus' days occurred back in 1989 where the mercury hit 100 or higher 143 times. The least number of 100 degree plus days was 48 back in 1913.
*Back in 1993, the high temperature hit 100 or higher 76 consecutive days. That's June 10th through August 24th.
*The average start date to 110 or higher is June 19, but that number is closer to June 10 if you look at the last 30 years.
*The earliest to hit '110 degrees plus' occurred on May 8th 1989 while the latest to hit 110 degrees was back in the summer of 1911 where the temperature never reached 110. Imagine that!
*The average last 110 degree day usually occurs on August 10th, but over the last 30 years that number is August 26th.
*The average number of 110 degree days sits at 11, but over the last 30 years the number has risen to 18.
*The greatest number of 110 degree plus days took place only 2 summers ago in 2007 where the mercury hit 110 34 days.
*How about the longest stretch of consecutive 110 degree days? That number stands at 18 which took place between June 12 through June 29th 1974.
*And what about the hottest day of the year here in the Valley? 122 degrees on June 26th 1990.Get ready for a long, hot summer...
All that's from channel 15's website. And it's all true! It's HOT!

You just said 100-degrees one too many times for my taste. You poor, poor girl.
And yet despite all this, I would still give anything to live there. Am I crazy or what?
It is definitely hot here, but time for swimming and we love that! :)
That is just so depressing, I love Arizona but the heat seems to triple when your pregnant! This will be a long summer! I think I'll be staying inside a lot! :-)
You know this post doesn't cheer my day, right?
I don't know how you do the heat there. I think I'd lay around all day under a fan. I'm so excited to see you guys!!
man...summers there are like winters here. It's finally spring!
A few months, then we'll be loving life again here in AZ! I hear pregnancies are no fun during the summer! Good luck!
Fun facts for an Arizona girl! I remember the 122 day - we were at the lake and it was HOT!! Lots of popsicles, shorts and swimming in AZ - not all bad.
