Junie B.

Today is a big day in our family.  Keara just read her first entire chapter book by herself.  YEAH!  Way to go Keara!

Now, I know that there are plenty of 6 year olds who have been reading chapter books for a couple years (aka Carter).  But until last night, Keara hadn't discovered the love of reading.  She enjoyed it well enough, but she never wanted to just read and read and read.

We went to Chicago last week and listened to Junie B. First Grader in the car, which got her interested in Junie B. Jones.  So last night, I took her to the library and we checked out 3 of the series.  I was so excited for her when she started reading right there in the aisle and wouldn't/couldn't put it down!  I had to guide her thru the library as she continued to read, then she read in the car, in the store we stopped at, when we got home, first thing this morning, and all during naps.  She just came down and announced she finished.  I'm so excited for her!

She loved it and is so excited to read the next one.  I love that the more you read, the better you get, and the more you enjoy it.  I hope she can discover the amazing worlds that reading opens up.  For now, that world is the world of Junie B. Jones and I couldn't be happier about that.
