Stained

I am searching for a fail-proof stain remover. Because Taryn loves to eat and is such a messy eater, her clothes are on the brink of being thrown away because I can't get these darn stains out! So, do you have a favorite stain remover that really, truly gets your stains out? For the record, I've tried PreWash, Spray and Wash, OxyClean (but maybe I'm not using that one correctly), and concentrated detergent. I have to wash things a half dozen times and still some of the stains won't come out. Any help?

I triple attack it by first spraying it with Shout triple-acting stain remover. Spray directly on the stain, then rub it in. Must let it sit for at least 5-10 minutes. I usually spray it that evening and let it set until I do the laundry.

Second, I use All's stainlifter liquid laundry detergent. We got a big size that is 2x concentrated. The smaller bottles of All in Wal-Mart or Target are 3x concentrated.

Third, I also add Clorox2 for Color bleach into the load of laundry (white or color). It brightens the colors and helps remove stains.

All three of these products I use never left bleached spots on the clothes. And it gets most of the stains out. There are a few stubborn ones that took 2-3 washing for it to completely come out. We have a very few stains that are permanent.

My trick for grease stains - liquid dishwashing soap. Rub it into grease spots and it works wonders. My trick for ink stains - hairspray or rubbing alcohol. Spray or rub some onto the spot right before you throw it in the wash.

Good luck! I know how annoying it is to try to keep clothes clean and stain free.

Just take her clothes off during eating time. That's what we do, but then again...my kids never wear clothes anyways.

Also, I have some stuff called Extreme Kleene, I got it from a door-to door salesman {shameful, I know...}. Its almost gone, it works WONDERS with stains, but you can probably google it and see if you can buy it online.

Good Luck!

I shouldn't even comment because I'm still searching for miracle products. I like Tiffany's laundry lesson (thanks!), and to put my own spin on it (so I guess that means I can get my own patent for this process ;) ) would be to use the Dreft Stain Remover spray. that's the one I've found to be the most effective. I've used Shout, Spray & Wish (Or rather, Spray&Wash), SA8...it's funny how some people can SWEAR by one thing, but it does not work for me...like Oxyclean...it works for SO MANY...we must be doing something wrong...but how could you be doing something wrong when it's as simple as "add a scoop to your wash"..wierd.

Another plug for Dreft:

As we were walking out the door for a run, Carter threw up Red Fruit Snack on Addison's Quilt...not a favorite thing to have happen. What did I do? Wipe it up with baby wipes (actually, this in and of itself is a good idea to help lift something that may stain otherwise) and spray it with Dreft....while I was at it, I also sprayed some red marker that got put there, hmmm....probably 6 months ago...I came home, prepped to wash it, and ALL THE SPOTS WERE GONE! They were there when I left, then gone when I came home! Who was my little Elf? Must have been Dreft,

Good to read the comments because I would love a simple miracle product. This is what I end up doing and truth is it has worked for everything and all our clothes except on two things (I haven't given up on those, I think I will resoak them.) I have a small plastic bin that I through her spotted clothes in and I use the SA8 all fabric bleach (a little more than they say on the box) with hot water and just let them soak until I end up washing a load of that type (we do whites and colors here) Sometimes I already have a full load and I have left clothes soaking for days just cuz. Its worked fine but i would love something that I can just spray on the clothes and through them in and the spot is gone. Prewash has worked great for us for somethings but not all. Oxy seemed to require a lot of SCRUB SCRUB SCRUB (only experience with this is with YAMS)

Also, I was inspecting each item after it went through the wash and then sticking the ones that didn't come clean in the bin for a soak. However this week I decided, why wait. Now, I stick them in the soak after she eats and them pull them out and through them in the wash when I do that load. Seems to be working fine.
Best of Luck,
Tauna

Like Tauna, I do the SA8 All-Fabric bleach soaks as necessary. I've also always used the SA8 Prewash liquid and it got most stains out, but some were more stubborn. Just in the last month, when I ran out of the liquid, I started using the spray version on food stains. It's working wonders.

I definately agree the spray works better on stains but I don't spray it in the house (too chemically for me thanks) ps the laundry room is outside
