I.....I Quit...I Quit...I Quit Mr. White

Okay, so that didn't last long.  Here's what I realized.  First, I have always HATED it when I have people over for dinner and we serve dessert and they say "Oh, I don't eat sweets."  Pooh on you.  I love to bake, I love to host, I love to serve desserts.  So you just turned your nose up at my favorite thing and all in the name of a diet.  Pooh on you.  (Not really, but still)

So I did great not having sugar for 3 days.  Then I went to an event where we were served dessert.  I didn't want to be rude.  The next day, we went to another event but it was more of a potluck so I didn't feel the need to indulge.  The next two days I did great.  We had someone over for dinner and I DIDN'T make dessert, though Braden served ice cream anyway.  I declined.  Now its been two more days and I'm doing well.

However, I have decided to alter my goal a bit.

1.  I will not purposely make junk food and serve it in my home unless it is a hostess opportunity (like this Saturday with our potluck and ice cream sundae bar).
2.  I will eat sugar if I am served it at someone else's event.
3.  All things in moderation.

One thing I've found is just WANTING to cut back on sugars has really helped me be more concious of what I am eating and where it is coming from.  Like lunch today.  I served yogurt.  Normally yogurt is full of corn syrup and junk, totally negating most of its nutritious benefits.  So I took plain yogurt, added honey, blueberries, raspberries, and marionberries (thanks to sam's club) and made our own mixed berry yogurt.  It was delicious and we all had seconds.  Mmm...

Sorry to disappoint those who have more will power than me and who are joining me in this quest.  I'm sure you can do a better job than me.  I figure if I can be more self-disciplined in between the holiday events and parties coming up, partaking for the sake of graciousness and deliciousness will not be too damaging, right?

hey, i'd still come over for that yummy yogurt :) call it a parfait, and you have a dessert. Call it mixed berry yogurt and it's a meal.

Kami and I recently came up with a joint goal. We agreed to work out for 30 min., 5x a week - and to only eat treats/desserts twice a week. This gave us some flexibility, if we knew we were going to a dinner, we would reserve one of our 2 sweet days for that and still have one day of the week to choose. We did not do a full no sugar because for us it just is not realistic. Every good effort is worth it - and the more you do, the more powerful you feel. It is a great feeling to be in control. (not that we are perfect every day - but we are doing better!) - Marissa
